Daniel sat in front of the computer. He hit play with trembling fingers. The woman in the video turned toward the camera, and he could finally see her face profile through the mask. That half-smile. The way her lips curled at the corner when she’s nervous. It was Rachel. His Rachel.
“First time on camera?” asked the male voice behind the lens.
“Yeah,” she said, and it’s unmistakably her voice. “My husband doesn’t know I’m here.”
“Tell me about him,” the man said, voice husky with anticipation. “Tell me about your husband while we enjoy the view.”
Rachel’s laugh came again, that nervous trill that Daniel recognized from whenever she was stepping outside her comfort zone. “He’s... he’s at home. Working. He thinks I’m at a conference.”
The masked woman—Rachel—reached up to adjust her mask, fingers trembling slightly. The camera zoomed in on her face.
